Annapurna Interactive, the game-publishing divison of Annapurna Pictures, has reportedly seen an “exodus” after a falling-out between its staff and company founder Megan Ellison over talks of spinning Annapurna Interactive off into its own independent entity.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier delivered the news, saying that Annapurna Interactive president Nathan Gray and the division’s roughly two dozen or so employees resigned after the aforementioned negotiations with Elison failed to bear fruit.
Known for the likes of Outer Wilds and Neon White, the publisher has made a name for itself as a purveyor of high-quality titles that then go on to bring in awards and win over hearts like no other.
Schreier was able to confirm with Annapurna that all projects and contracts- such as the upcoming Nintendo Switch port of Stray– would be honored, as verified by a spokesperson and Annapurna Interactive’s new president, Hector Sanchez, who also stated that all of the previous staff will be replaced.
Annapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison provided the following statement to Bloomberg in response to the mass resignations:
“Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition.”
“We’re committed to not only our existing slate of games but also expanding our presence in the interactive space as we continue to look for opportunities to take a more integrated approach to linear and interactive storytelling across film and TV, gaming, and theatre.”
