Andor Season 2 Release Date Announced, Comes Out Immediately After Star Wars Celebration

The Andor season 2 release date has been revealed. The Disney+ show, which takes place in the Star Wars universe, is a prequel to Rogue One that stars Diego Luna reprising his titular role and follows his early years fighting for the Rebellion. The cast also includes Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, and Fiona Shaw. Andor season 2 will be the final season of the show, which has always been the plan, as the show’s limited timeline follows the five years leading up to Rogue One, in which the character dies.

Originally spotted by Aldo on Twitter, on the Disney+ mobile app, the tile advertising Andor has been updated to reflect the upcoming season’s release date, with the bottom of the poster for the show reading Season 2 coming April 22.” In addition to marking two years and five months after the season 1 finale, which aired in November 23, 2022, this release date will come hot on the heels of the fan convention Star Wars Celebration. The next convention takes place between April 18 and April 20, 2025, leaving just a two-day hiatus between the end of the event and the premiere of the new season.

This release date has been officially confirmed at D23 Brazil.

What Andor Season 2’s Release Date Means For Star Wars

It Could Hugely Impact Star Wars Celebration

It had already been known that the show would be returning to the screen some time in early 2025. This announcement reveals that the show will come during one of the later months in that time frame, increasing the delay between the Andor season 1 finale and the premiere of the final season. This is not unprecedented in the Disney+ television branch of the franchise, however. Though many of the live-action Star Wars shows are single-season limited series, the hiatus between The Mandalorian seasons 2 and 3 was nearly as long, lasting for two years and three months.

The Book of Boba Fett
,
Obi-Wan Kenobi
, and
The Acolyte
all ran for one season, with
Ahsoka
so far being the only other
Star Wars
series to get a second season, while
Acolyte
was the only one to get officially cancelled.

While this release date results in an extended hiatus, the reveal that it comes immediately after Star Wars Celebration means that the event could be packed with exclusives promoting the show’s release. This possible massive presence could include panels and appearances by the Andor cast. Attendees could potentially even be shown an early screening of the opening episode or episodes.

Precedent Suggests How Long The Season Will Run

Although it has not yet been officially announced exactly when the series finale of the Star Wars TV show will air, Disney+ has set a precedent with their previous franchise installments that could help pinpoint exactly how the season’s release pattern will play out. To begin with, it has already been confirmed that Andor season 2 will feature 12 episodes, just like season 1. If it follows the same release pattern as the original season, premiering with its first three episodes then airing the remaining episodes weekly, this means that its finale would most likely air on June 24, 2025.

Disney+ streaming series do not tend to take weeks off once they premiere, even though this is a common practice with weekly network television seasons.

However, The Mandalorian has set a precedent that Disney+ Star Wars series which are already established do not need to rely on multi-episode drops for their premieres. Although The Mandalorian season 1 debuted with two episodes in one week, both season 2 and season 3 premiered with just one episode, with the second episode coming a full week later. Should Andor follow suit and air just one episode per week, prolonging the run of the show in the wake of its extended hiatus, it could very well run from April 22 through July 8, 2025.

Lucasfilm has officially pushed back Andor season 2, even though only two weeks of filming remained. What’s going on with Star Wars this time..?

Ending the series on July 8 would allow the franchise to better space out the releases of upcoming Star Wars TV shows and movies. With the upcoming spinoff movie The Mandalorian & Grogu set to premiere on May 22, 2026, the schedule could be perfectly timed to allow for the weekly release of the currently undated Ahsoka season 2 to take place in late 2025 without overlapping too closely with the end of Andor or the beginning of the rollout of the Mandalorian feature.

Our Take On Andor Season 2

Disney Is Getting Behind The Show In A Major Way

This news is exciting, because it shows that Disney+ is taking the continuation of the show – which is one of the best live-action Disney+ offerings – seriously. This release date suggests that they will be putting their all into promoting Andor season 2 and that they are well aware that its initial glowing reception (earning a Certified Fresh 96% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes as well as 87% from audiences) has only grown in the two years since its release, especially after it was nominated for eight Emmy awards and a Golden Globe.
