Fans of Andor saw Ben Mendelsohn‘s Orson Krennic make his long-awaited debut on the acclaimed Star Wars series last week. Now, they too can be on the verge of greatness with a new figure of the Imperial technocrat. The figure will be available for pre-order on April 30 exclusively at Target.com.
The new figure from Hasbro’s 6-inch-scale Black Series sees Krennic outfitted in the formal uniform he wears in the Andor season premiere, “One Year Later,” where he presides over a meeting outlining the atrocity that will become the infamous Ghorman Massacre. It features screen-accurate details and a highly accurate head sculpt. The figure also features a cloth cape and a handheld blaster pistol accessory. It is the first in a series of new Star Wars figures Hasbro will be unveiling each week as each “block” of Andor episodes premieres on Disney+. The figure will retail for $24.99, and will be available to pre-order on April 30 at 1 p.m. ET exclusively on Target.com; it will then be available in stores this summer.
Who Is Orson Krennic?
First appearing in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Krennic is an Imperial bureaucrat in charge of constructing the Death Star, a massive moon-sized space station with the ability to destroy an entire planet. Ruthless and ambitious, Krennic inadvertently sowed the seeds of his own destruction when he had engineer Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) forcibly recruited into the project. Unbeknownst to Krennic, Erso secretly hid a fatal flaw in the Death Star’s design, the knowledge of which he eventually passed on to his daughter, Jyn (Felicity Jones). Jyn and Rebel agent Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) led a strike team to the planet Scarif in an attempt to steal the Death Star’s plans. Krennic, meanwhile, had to deal with both Darth Vader, who was disappointed with Krennic’s slow progress, and Grand Moff Tarkin, an ambitious Imperial who wanted to seize the project from Krennic. He personally intervened in the Imperial counterattack on Scarif, but was unable to stop the theft of the plans, and was killed himself when Tarkin fired the Death Star’s weapon at the planet.
Andor, a prequel series to Rogue One, has been receiving some of the best reviews ever for a Star Wars project; its second and final season currently holds a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In her review of the second season, Collider’s Maggie Lovitt called it “a true masterclass in storytelling.”
Hasbro’s Black Series Orson Krennic figure will be available to preorder on Target.com on April 30. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
