Amazon Has Renewed Neil Gaiman’s GOOD OMENS for Third and Final Season — GeekTyrant

Amazon Studios has officially renewed Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens for a third and final season. Michael Sheen and David Tennant will return to reprise their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley. This series was originally supposed to be a one-season limited series, but fans and Amazon loved it so much that they decided to add to the story with additional seasons.

Gaiman, who continues as executive producer, writer, and showrunner. shared in a statement: “I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006. Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now, in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.”

Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios added: “Good Omens has checked every box for a clever, witty, and funny comedy that not only made it a success on Prime Video but also made ‘goodness’ watchable and fun thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity. The final season is sure to be packed with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy.”

Gaiman previously talked about how he never intended for Season 2’s arc to be the second installment. He and Terry Pratchett had already worked on a sequel for the fantasy comedy, but this current season is not the story they came up with. Gaiman came up with a different story for Season 2 that could serve as a connection between the first season and the third season. So, Season 3 would tell the sequel story that he and Pratchett came up with.

We don’t know any of the major plot details for the third chapter of the story, but in a previous interview with Tennant and Sheen, they were asked if there are any time periods they would want to explore in Season 3, to which Sheen responded: “Well, there’s lots, isn’t there?” Tennant added: “There’s all sorts of possibilities, aren’t there? I mean, we love doing those different time period scenes as well. They’re such fun to do … Partly because of the dressing up nature of it, but also because it does show little bits of the relationship and little aspects of the characters and how they’ve developed. And it’s so wonderful to do.”

Tennant then shared that it’d be fun to see Aziraphale and Crowley in the ‘80s: “It might be nice to see ’80s Aziraphale and Crowley. I’d almost certainly be dressed as some sort of Gordon Gekko [Michael Douglas in Wall Street] figure.” Sheen went on to share: “And I would be very [the British pop group] Haircut 100.”

Are you excited to learn that we’re getting a Good Omens Season 3!?
