Alpha Violet Boards Uruguayan Drama ‘Don’t Let Me Go’

EXCLUSIVE: Alpha Violet has acquired world sales rights for Uruguayan filmmaking duo Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge’s new drama Don’t You Let Me Go, exploring themes of friendship and death.

The Paris-based company previously worked with the filmmakers on their debut film So Much Water (Tanta Agua), which world premiered in the Berlinale’s Panorama section in 2013 and was acquired by Arte for Europe and HBO for the U.S.

The new movie, which is in post-production, sees follows a woman’s journey through time to see her best friend after one of them dies.

They reconnect in a past that may not be perfect but seems more real than the unintelligible present in which death has come to soon.

The cast features Eva Dans, Chiara Hourcade and Victoria Jorge.

“Don’t You Let Me Go is totally a movie for us,” said Virginie Devesa, Alpha Violet co-founding head with Keiko Funato. “Not only because we worked with the two filmmakers Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge on their first movie but above all because of the story and its directing.”

“Keiko and I are thrilled to announce this pickup as we really see it either in Cannes or in Venice and for the way it portrays female friendship with so much care and love.”

Paris-based Alpha Violet are currently riding high on the back of Sundance wins for two films on its current slate.

Mexican drug cartel drama Sujo by Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, while Iranian drama In The Land Of Brothers won the Best Director Award in the same category for Alireza Ghasemi and Raha Amirfazli.

Don’t Let Me Go is being produced by Agustina Chiarino at Bocacha Films.

The Latam indie cinema mover and shaker produced the filmmakers’ previous two films, with other credits including Sebastián Peña Escobar’s The Last, Alicia Cano’s Bosco, Joaquín González Vaillant’s Alter and Marcelo Martinessi’s The Heiresses.
