The annual DICE Awards have just wrapped up, and this year, Astro Bot was a clear favorite with judges. Once again hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller and Stella Chung, the event was another highlight reel of the best that the industry had to offer in 2024, as well as a celebration of the people who make video games.
Team Asobi’s delightful platformer Astro Bot walked away with awards for Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Outstanding Technical Achievement, Family Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, as well as the prestigious Game Of The Year award. Another big winner was Helldivers 2, as the live-service game was honored for its excellence in music and audio design. On top of that, it won the awards for Action Game of the Year and Online Game of the Year.
Balatro was a big hit when it was released last year, and the roguelike deck-building game scooped up the awards for Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game and Mobile Game of the Year. Metaphor: ReFantazio was recognized as the best RPG of the year, and Black Myth: Wukong was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction.
In addition to the games that were celebrated, the DICE Awards also honored several gaming industry leaders. Former Nintendo of America VP Don James received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the games industry and his work at the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and Insomniac Games founder Ted Price joined the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame.
