TAKOPI’S ORIGINAL SIN leaps to life with new anime adaptation
Takopi’s Original Sin, the manga series about an alien trying to help a depressed girl will be turned into an anime.
Takopi’s Original Sin has been confirmed for an anime adaptation. The studio released a new key visual showing Shizuka lying on her bed in a messy room, with her beloved dog Chappy sleeping nearby. Most striking is her backpack, with books spilling out, as if someone trampled on it.
Aside from the announcement video and key visual, little else is known about the anime. Details on the studio, casting, and premiere date will likely come in the next couple months.
Taizan5 wrote and illustrated Takopi’s Original Sin, a web manga series published on Shōnen Jump+ in December 2021 and concluding in March 2022. Publishers compiled the chapters into two tankōbon volumes. The manga earned the Excellence Prize at the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in 2022 and received nominations for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and Best Comic in the Seiun Award in 2023. As of May 2022, the series has circulated over 1.2 million copies, including print and digital editions.
The story follows the friendship between Takopi, an alien resembling an octopus, and nine-year-old Shizuka. Shizuka endures relentless bullying from her classmate Marina, and when the pressure becomes unbearable, Takopi intervenes by turning back time. He hopes to help Shizuka and stop her from making a decision she can’t turn back from.
