CLAYMORE manga gets live-action adaptation produced by Masi Oka

According to a report from Deadline, the hit manga Claymore is set to receive a live-action adaptation, produced by Heroes actor Masi Oka.

The project will be a collaboration between CBS Studios and Propagate Content, with Japanese publisher Shueisha also involved. Oka will serve as executive producer, alongside Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Rodney Ferrel from Propagate Content. Deadline reports that the live-action adaptation aims to stay true to the action and complex moral dilemmas explored in both the original manga and its anime, which is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Oka previously co-produced Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of the manga Death Note.

Claymore, written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi, is set in a medieval world where humans are preyed upon by shape-shifting monsters known as Yoma. The survival of humanity hinges on female warriors called Claymores, who are tasked with battling the Yoma.

A description for Vol. 1 of the manga, published in English by VIZ, is as follows:

A village is gripped by fear and paranoia when a Yoma claims six lives. The Claymore who is sent to slay the creature isn’t what the villagers expect at all. In fact, she seems more monster than human.

At this time, there is no additional information regarding the live-action adaptation.
