Warner Robins’ Miller Elementary placed on short lockdown after nearby assault

The Warner Robins Police Department says the school has since returned to a Code Green after the early morning incident.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A family violence situation on Briarcliff Road thrust nearby Miller Elementary School into a soft lockdown Thursday morning, but the school has since returned to normal operations, according to a press release from the Warner Robins Police Department.

The Warner Robins Police Department falsely said that the school was placed in a code red lockdown, but Houston County Board of Education spokesperson Jennifer Jones says the school was actually placed in a code yellow..

Warner Robins Police say an aggravated assault between a 28-year-old man and a woman happened at around 9:10 a.m. in the 600 block of Briarcliff Road, but by the time police arrived, the suspect had already left the scene.

They say because of the location of the school, which is just a few blocks away from the aggravated assault, the school was placed in a code yellow lockdown. The school has since returned to a code green, or normal operations.

Jones says that, during a code yellow lockdown, all doors are locked but instruction continues as normal inside Houston County classrooms.

An aggravated assault — which is a broad criminal charge — could be a shooting, pointing a gun at someone, attacking someone with a stapler or a stabbing, but the Warner Robins Police Department would not share the nature of the assault.

Police Lt. Patrick Allen says the assault is currently under investigation.

The Warner Robins Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Identification Criminalists responded to the scene and processed the scene, the press release said.

They say the victim was taken to a local hospital where they are being treated. The press release does not make clear whether the suspect was arrested as well or if they are still out and about.

Because the case involves family violence, the agency says they will not be releasing information on the victim and suspect at this time.

The Warner Robins Police says the aggravated assault is under investigation. They encourage anyone with information to contact Detective Ashley Strom at 478-302-5380 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
