School Spirits season 1 left off with more questions than answers for the upcoming second season. If he didn’t want to hurt her, then the two of them must have had something sinister planned when stealing Maddie’s body. The true nature of their relationship, and who Janet really is, still remains a mystery.

Maddie had no idea what had happened to her until the end of the season, so it might be possible that some of the other spirits aren’t actually dead either. Their bodies might have also been stolen, and have been used by other people involved in Mr. Martin and Janet’s plan. Unlike Maddie, most of the spirits remember how they die and are aware of the events leading to their death. However, if Maddie can forget that Janet took control of her body, then the memories of other spirits could be altered as well.

Xavier (Spencer MacPherson) is a complex character who falls onto the suspect list after Maddie’s disappearance. He was her boyfriend before she went to the afterlife, and though he didn’t always treat her the best as a girlfriend, his innocence is all but proven at the end of season 1. Maddie’s body, being controlled by Janet, is seen hitting him with a truck and the fate of his life is still up in the air when the season ends. Why Janet would want to do this, and whether Xavier will live or die is up to the events of season 2.

Simon (Kristian Flores) and Maddie are best friends in real life, and when she disappears, Simon is devastated. However, Simon is able to see and communicate with Maddie from the afterlife, and the two work together to solve her disappearance. As the season progresses, Simon becomes entangled with more and more secrets involving the people connected to Maddie’s disappearance, and all the paranoia and grief make him question if he’s losing his grip on reality. Being the only person who can see Maddie, he starts to think he’s just imagining her. Maddie tries to convince him this isn’t true because she’s going to need him in the next season.

Since Maddie is not really dead, it’s theoretically possible that she can take her body back from Janet and get back to the land of the living. However, the reality of how to do this is anyone’s guess. Most likely, the majority of season 2 will be Maddie and her friends tracking Janet down and finding a way for Maddie to take back what’s hers.
